Headpieces to suit your face shape and style

Monday, August 10, 2015

So we have covered choosing the right hair style to suit your gorgeous face and now you are looking for that extra sparkle in your hair but what do you go for?

The main factors to consider are the dress style, the wedding theme, hairstyle you have chosen and of course your face shape.  To help you narrow down some of the many options out there from combs, to wire halos, fresh flowers, headbands we have some suggestions that compliment your face shape and hair style for you to try as a starting point...

OVAL - As you can pretty much go with any style out there, the same fortunately applies with the headpiece, so the main thing you want to consider is the style to suit your dress and wedding style!

ROUND - You will have opted for a style that creates less volume around the face so you want to choose a headpiece that will compliment that theme of elongating the face.  Avoid a piece with too much fullness at the sides.  Go for a comb secured at the crown of the head or if you want something to view from the front choose a wide headband or comb positioned to the side, drawing attention to your eyes.  Those with a petite round face can opt for a thinner headband or tiara.  Veils are advised to be worn low on the head to create length rather than higher falling around the face.

SQUARE - When looking for an accessory to go with your bridal hairstyle, your goal is to draw attention away from your angular jaw.  Avoid anything near your ears or anything large directly up top.   Instead look to a headpiece that you can wear near the temple to create a pretty asymmetrical detail to soft the lines adding length.  Alternatively a wide headband is a good way to balance out your face with a rounded line.

HEART - A headpiece for your heart shaped face you are looking to draw attention to your cheekbones and beautiful eyes!  Halo headpieces are ideal, positioned along your hairline or above your ear really compliment your heart shaped face.  If you opt for a veil it can be worn at mid crown or higher on the head with the veil falling down around the face balancing the narrow delicate chin.

DIAMOND - Diamond faces you want to keep attention focused on your eyes and forehead.  Again light halo headpieces paired with curls softening all angles really works well.

OBLONG - Longer faces are looking to add that width instead of length so go for a larger side headpiece which will draw attention to your cheekbones.  Veils should worn lower and around the face rather than on the top of the head giving height.

If you aren't sure you want a statement piece then another great option is just some simple pins or delicate comb positioned to the back of the hair for that extra point of interest and sparkle as you walk down the aisle.
